The EDIX Calif Horsehair Mecate is a professional, superior-quality mecate. This 5/8″ mecate features a 6-strand twist around a horsehair core and measures 22 feet (670 cm) in length.
Designed for Refined Communication
The mecate is available in traditional horsehair or soft braided wool, allowing every rider to choose the material that best suits their preference.
The horsehair version offers a firm feel and delivers very direct, refined signals. Horses often respond exceptionally well to the feel of horsehair along the neck, making subtle neck reining and precise communication possible. As horsehair can feel slightly coarse in the hands, we recommend wearing riding gloves.
The wool version provides the same traditional functionality while offering a softer and more comfortable feel in the hands. The natural texture of the wool provides excellent grip, making this version particularly suitable for everyday riding or for riders who prefer a softer mecate without compromising control or refined communication.
Depending on the size and conformation of the horse, the number of wraps around the bosal can be adjusted to achieve the ideal balance and fit.

The EDIX Calif Mecate is available in horsehair and wool versions, in brown and black. It measures 670 cm (22 ft) and is finished with a leather string in matching leather colors to the EDIX ED3 Western bridles.
