9 april, 2024

Meet our new ambassador: Amelie Klinkenberg! My n Meet our new ambassador: Amelie Klinkenberg!

My name is Amelie Klinkenberg, I’m 9 years old and without a doubt the pinkest EDIX ambassador ever! I’m super proud to officially be part of the EDIX team. For me, a good saddle is just as important as good feed – it’s the foundation for great training and top competitions.

Dressage, jumping, shows... If it has to do with ponies, I’m there. Most of the time, you’ll see me coming from far away – I love wearing my bright pink jacket and matching helmet. And if you don’t see me, you’ll definitely hear me, because I’m also the champion of chatting (just ask my ponies 😉!)

Right now, I’m competing with two ponies: Beauty, a beautiful black B mare, and Diva, a tough brown D gelding. With Beauty, I dance in the dressage ring in my EDIX Princess saddle – totally royal, and a perfect match for my style. With Diva, I ride dressage in the EDIX Tudor. But when we go jumping, we count on the EDIX Alydar to fly over the fences.

So if you ever see a pink blur fly by with a huge smile – that’s me on my bright pink EDIX Signor 😉! Because let’s be honest: without a good saddle, there’s no fun ride. And with EDIX, I’m literally and figuratively firmly in the saddle – ready to shine!

Welcome to our EDIX team Amelie! 🤩

The EDIX Alano Bosal 🥰 A vibrant, modern The EDIX Alano Bosal 🥰

A vibrant, modern and horse-friendly version of a Bosal. The EDIX Alano Bosal of the “Mix & Match collection” is made of PP-rope waved around a flexible steel wire core.

This bosal offers a kind and clear method of communication. When light pressure is applied through the reins, the bosal applies pressure to the nose. As soon as the reins are released, the bosal immediately gives, resulting in a complete and direct release. This makes the Alano a soft yet refined communication tool ❤️

Is a short western saddle always better? 🤔 You Is a short western saddle always better? 🤔

You’ll notice more and more (too) short treeless Western saddles appearing on the market.
Understandably, many leisure riders love the idea of owning a treeless Western saddle: the image of riding through the woods in a Western saddle, combined with the sense of freedom it gives, is indeed appealing! 🤩

However, many horses with shorter backs (think Icelandics, Arabians, or Gypsy horses) are simply not suitable for such saddles. In response to this market demand, we see designs emerging that drastically reduce the leather surface in front of the pommel and behind the cantle. Not to mention saddle panels that are shorter than the overall length of the saddle.

A saddle that’s too short can cause balance issues for the rider and therefore for the horse. This imbalance eventually leads to overloading the horse’s back. A well-balanced saddle must be the correct length to allow the horse freedom of movement underneath it, while supporting the rider properly. Only then can the rider’s weight be evenly distributed without creating pressure points.

Why a saddle that’s too short can be problematic:
1. It can create imbalance for the rider. A too-short saddle can push the rider backwards or cause the knees to sit out of alignment. This often leads to hip tension and difficulties with staying balanced such
as leaning forward or backward. Not only is this uncomfortable for the rider, it also impacts the horse, which constantly has to compensate for the rider’s imbalance.

When a treeless saddle is too short in the front (particularly around the pommel area) it tends to tip forward, limiting the horse’s shoulder freedom underneath the front of the saddle. If the saddle is too short for the rider, the rider’s legs will extend past the front of the saddle, or the rider may sit too long and lean forward or backward, leading to poor weight distribution and potential pressure points. If the saddle is too short overall, the rider’s weight becomes overly concentrated on the back of the saddle, which can cause discomfort or pain in the horse’s back over time.
